The cable modem is a type of bridge that provides bidirectional data communication through RF channels on the Hybrid Fiber-Coaxial (HFC) and Radio Frequency over Glass (RFoG) infrastructures. Cable modems are primarily used to offer broadband internet access in the form of wired internet, leveraging the high bandwidth of HFC and RFoG networks.

In computer networking, a wireless access point (WAP), or more generally, an access point (AP), is a network hardware device that allows Wi-Fi devices to connect to a wired network. APs are typically standalone devices connected to a router (via a wired network), but they can also be part of the router itself. Unlike access points, hotspots are physical locations where Wi-Fi can access WLAN.
